Computer Science Teacher at Durham International Schools

Durham School provides a first-class all-around educational experience. All pupils, from age 3 through to 18, enjoy the equality of opportunity necessary to fulfill their potential, are well-prepared for further education and have the confidence to face an ever-changing global environment. To ensure this, Durham School provides a broad and balanced curriculum of GCSEs, iGCSEs and A-Levels and places great emphasis on giving pupils the flexibility to choose the curriculum which best suits them. We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

  • We seek to appoint a Whole School Computer Science Teacher with experience of teaching the UK curriculum, up to IGCSE Level, and ideally to A Level, for September 2025.
  • It is our ambition to become the best international school in Nairobi. This will require world-class teachers and leaders, committed to achieving the highest standards of teaching and learning. We are also passionate about the deeply personal community where every student is known individually, a child-centred approach, a strong focus on wellbeing, and a rounded education with the MARK values permeating every aspect of the student experience.
  • The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge and experience of teaching the UK Computer Science curriculum up to IGCSE and ideally to A Level. You will have the initiative to develop the Computer Science curriculum initially from Year 1 to Year 9 and in subsequent years to IGCSE and A Level including creating the schemes of work and resources, and developing wider opportunities such as trips.
  • You will also contribute to the wider team establishing the expectations within the school. In this early stage of the school’s development everybody will need to ‘muck in’ and have the adaptability to contribute across a range of areas. All staff will be expected to offer some extracurricular activities and support the pastoral programme for example as a form tutor and/or offering PSHE.

Summary of Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Produce a departmental development plan, updated annually.
  • Produce and regularly update schemes of work and curriculum documents.
  • Take responsibility for the demands of public examination courses.
  • Mark and assess the work of potential entrants to the school as required.
  • Maintain regular communication with Prep and Senior School Curriculum Advisors.
  • Contribute to the overall curriculum planning of the school.
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons in accordance with published schemes of work.
  • Teach the assigned students, including setting and marking of work and assessments in line with school policy.
  • Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students in line with school policy.

Qualifications, Background and Experience

  • Have a good honours degree and a teacher training qualification for the 11-18 age range.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience, ideally 5 or more years teaching experience.
  • Be able to teach Computer Science up to IGCSE and to A Level.
  • Have a valid Teacher Services Commission Certificate (if applying from Kenya) or a PGCE,
  • Qualified Teacher Status or a general education degree (for overseas applicants).
  • Be a skilled classroom practitioner, having a good subject knowledge and an awareness of teaching methodology.
