JOB DETAILS:

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and serve meals according to dietary requirements for different patients (including therapeutic diets)
• Ensure food is cooked, stored, and served in accordance with health and safety regulations
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, equipment, and food storage areas
• Work closely with nutritionists and clinicians to meet patient dietary needs
• Monitor food inventory and notify the supervisor for timely reordering
• Adhere to hospital food preparation policies, including portion control and hygiene standards
• Support kitchen assistants and supervise meal service as needed
• Additional Responsibilities:
  • Develop weekly menus considering nutritional requirements and patient preferences
  • Prepare special meals for patients with allergies or religious dietary restrictions
  • Maintain accurate temperature logs for food storage and preparation
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff on proper food handling techniques
  • Participate in monthly kitchen equipment maintenance and safety checks
  • Implement waste reduction strategies in food preparation

Requirements

• A Certificate or Diploma in Food Production, Culinary Arts, or related hospitality field
• At least 2 years of experience as a cook, preferably in a hospital, school, or institutional setting
• Knowledge of hospital diets and food safety regulations is essential
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Must be organized, reliable, and able to work under minimal supervision
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in Food Hygiene and Safety
  • Experience preparing therapeutic diets for mental health patients
  • Knowledge of HACCP principles in food service
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
