Job Purpose
The Corporate Communications Manager exists to protect, build, and strategically advance DIB Kenya’s reputation, voice, and public standing as the country’s leading Shariah-compliant bank. This role is responsible for designing and executing an integrated corporate communications strategy that spans media relations, regulatory stakeholder engagement, internal communications, executive positioning, employer branding, and crisis management.
This role designs and executes the strategic communications architecture to support the business and ensures how the bank is perceived by the media, regulators, employees, corporate clients, and the communities it serves is always aligned to its business ambitions. The role translates the bank’s heritage into a compelling, credible Kenyan narrative that builds trust, attracts deposits, and strengthens the bank’s commercial position.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Communications
- Develop and execute DIB Kenya’s corporate communications strategy, covering media, internal audiences, regulators, and corporate stakeholders.
- Produce and distribute high-quality press releases, corporate announcements, leadership statements, and bank milestone communications, ensuring alignment with DIB Group communications standards.
- Maintain a bank-wide communications calendar, ensuring all key dates, milestones, product launches, and strategic events are planned and communicated proactively.
- Oversee the production of the bank’s annual report communications sections and stakeholder presentations.
- Draft CEO speeches, Board presentations, and stakeholder correspondence to the highest standard of executive communication.
Media Relations
- Build, manage, and deepen relationships with key media stakeholders across print, broadcast, online, and trade publications in Kenya and the East Africa region.
- Develop a proactive media placement strategy that generates regular, positive coverage of DIB Kenya’s business milestones, Islamic banking education content, and community contributions.
- Manage all media enquiries, coordinate press briefings, and oversee the bank’s spokesperson function, ensuring all media engagements are aligned, accurate, and on message.
- Monitor media coverage, produce weekly and monthly media monitoring reports, and calculate earned media value.
- Build relationships with financial, business, Islamic finance, and lifestyle journalists to ensure consistent and high-quality coverage.
Internal Communications
- Work closely with HR to design and manage a structured internal communications programme to ensure all employees are informed, engaged, and aligned with DIB Kenya’s strategy, culture, and values.
- Develop and distribute the bank’s internal newsletter, leadership messages, town hall facilitation materials, and all-staff communications.
- Partner strategically with Human Resources in communicating organisational changes, policy updates, and culture-building initiatives.
- Manage internal crisis communications, ensuring staff are informed accurately and promptly during periods of change or uncertainty.
Executive Communications & Thought Leadership
- Support the CEO and ExCo in building their personal profiles as credible industry leaders through keynote speeches, media appearances, op-eds, and speaking engagements.
- Develop a thought leadership calendar that positions DIB Kenya’s leadership at key Islamic finance, banking, and business events in Kenya and across Africa.
- Write and edit executive communications including speeches, articles, LinkedIn content, award submissions, and industry commentary.
- Prepare briefing notes, media training support, and talking points for all senior leadership external engagements.
Reputation Management
- Develop and maintain DIB Kenya’s reputation management framework, including issues management protocols, crisis communications playbooks, and stakeholder escalation pathways.
- Monitor brand sentiment, media narratives, competitor positioning, and public perception, providing regular intelligence reports to the Head of Marketing, Brand & Communications and the CEO.
- Lead the bank’s response to reputational risk events, coordinating across Legal, Compliance, HR, and the CEO’s Office.
- Ensure all public-facing communications are compliant with Central Bank of Kenya regulations, DIB Group policies, and Islamic banking principles.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage DIB Kenya’s relationship with key external stakeholders including the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenya Bankers Association, Shariah advisory bodies, and relevant industry associations.
- Develop a structured stakeholder engagement plan, ensuring regular and value-adding touchpoints with regulators, government bodies, and community leaders.
Employer Branding
- Develop and execute, in partnership with HR, DIB Kenya’s employer brand strategy, positioning the bank as an employer of choice in Kenya’s financial services sector.
- Partner with HR to create compelling recruitment communications, career portal content and campus engagement programmes.
- Manage DIB Kenya’s LinkedIn Careers presence, Glassdoor profile, and broader talent attraction communications.
- Build the bank’s reputation as a diverse, inclusive, and values-driven employer with a strong Shariah-compliant culture and genuine career development commitment.
- Produce employee testimonial campaigns, staff spotlight features, and behind-the-scenes content that humanise the DIB Kenya brand.
