Finance Manager - General Broking

About JW Seagon

We are an international insurance brokerage with a simple ambition: to simplify insurance and deliver delightful customer experiences. The JW Seagon Group is a leading international insurance brokerage with offices in Kenya, Tanzania and Mauritius, serving a diverse international client base through innovative, customer-led insurance solutions. Our purpose, “Caring for you,” sits at the heart of how we work with our clients, partners and people. We are building a stronger, more agile and higher-performing organisation by investing in our people, processes, technology and ways of working. Across the Group, our focus is increasingly simple: stronger execution, better customer experiences and sustainable growth.

Joining JWS at this moment

JWS is at an important point in its growth and transformation journey. As our business grows, so does the importance of disciplined working-capital management. Strong revenue performance only translates into business performance when receivables are converted into cash quickly, predictably and with appropriate control. We are therefore strengthening our credit-control capability within General Broking and are looking for someone who can bring greater discipline, visibility and commercial focus to how we manage collections and receivables.Over time, the scope may extend to supporting credit control within our Medical Division as the Group continues to strengthen and integrate its Finance operations.

What you'll own

Collections & Cash-Flow Delivery

  • Lead the end-to-end collection of outstanding premiums, commissions, overrides and other receivables across the General Broking portfolio.
  • Prioritise collection activity according to value, ageing, risk and business exposure.
  • Establish clear ownership of debtor accounts and actively track payment commitments through to receipt.
  • Drive achievement of monthly collection targets and intervene early where performance falls behind plan.
  • Maintain strong collection discipline while protecting important long-term client relationships.

Overdue Debt & Recovery

  • Own the aged-debt portfolio and drive sustained reduction of balances beyond agreed credit terms.
  • Identify high-risk and long-outstanding accounts and put clear recovery actions in place.
  • Negotiate authorised repayment plans where appropriate and monitor commitments through to completion.
  • Escalate broken payment commitments and material exposures promptly.
  • Coordinate complex recoveries with Broking, Finance, EXCO and Legal where required.

Credit Risk & Commercial Judgement

  • Assess client payment risk and recommend appropriate credit terms within approved policy and delegated authority.
  • Monitor exposures against approved terms and identify emerging credit risks before they become material.
  • Challenge unsupported credit extensions and ensure exceptions are properly authorised.
  • Recommend escalation, suspension, provisioning or write-off actions where necessary.
  • Balance effective credit-risk management with commercial considerations and important client relationships.

Receivables Management & Financial Control

  • Ensure receipts are promptly and accurately allocated to the correct accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and reliable accounts-receivable balances.
  • Drive resolution of unmatched cash, credit notes, disputed invoices and reconciliation differences.
  • Ensure outstanding reconciliation items have clear owners, actions and closure dates.
  • Support accurate month-end close through complete and reliable receivables information.
  • Maintain strong controls, appropriate segregation of duties and clear audit trails across credit-control activities.

Cash Forecasting & Management Visibility

  • Develop credible monthly collection forecasts using debtor ageing, client commitments and historical payment behaviour.
  • Track actual collections against forecast and investigate material variances.
  • Give Finance leadership clear visibility of expected collections, risks, shortfalls and corrective actions.
  • Produce concise ageing, collections and exposure reporting that supports management decision-making.
  • Coordinate with insurer-accounting colleagues regarding payment status, remittances and dependencies.

Business Partnership & Client Resolution

  • Lead regular credit-control reviews with Broking, Sales and Relationship Management teams.
  • Identify the underlying causes of payment delays and establish clear owners and deadlines for resolution.
  • Work with client-facing teams to resolve documentation, invoicing and service issues preventing payment.
  • Manage sensitive collection discussions professionally while protecting JWS's commercial interests.
  • Build broader organisational ownership of receivables, rather than allowing credit control to operate as an isolated Finance activity.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop colleagues responsible for collections and receivables.
  • Establish clear individual objectives, portfolio ownership and collection expectations.
  • Review performance regularly and intervene where commitments are not being delivered.
  • Build sufficient capability and cover across critical activities including collections, allocations and reconciliations.
  • Create a culture of urgency, accuracy, ownership and accountability.

Process, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse recurring causes of late payment, ageing and reconciliation exceptions and address the root causes.
  • Improve collection workflows, reporting routines and escalation mechanisms.
  • Maximise the use of broking, Finance and reporting systems to improve receivables visibility and accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify and strengthen credit-control processes.
  • Track corrective actions through to measurable improvement.

The Credit Control Manager will ultimately be measured by outcomes, not activity. These outcomes will be discussed during the recruitment phase.

Growing with JWS
