About Tamu Labs
Tamu Labs is an early stage company building AI-native operating systems in East Africa. We are currently focused on hospitality and retail systems in addition to enterprise contracts across sectors. Learn more about us here: https://www.tamupos.com
The Role
We're hiring a Customer Growth Associate (Technical) — a sharp, resourceful generalist who's ready to do whatever it takes to grow TamuPOS from the ground up. This is not a siloed position. You'll sell the product, set it up, support the people using it, and help us make it better. You'll talk to merchants in the morning, configure a menu at lunch, and flag a bug by evening. Here's what that actually looks like:
What You'll Do
- Merchant acquisition. Identify, approach, and close restaurant and café merchants across Nairobi. Run demos, handle objections, own the pipeline. Turn single-location clients into long-term partners.
- Deployment. Take new clients live end-to-end: account configuration, menu structure, payment integration, hardware. Train cashiers and managers on site, in person. Tablets and stands included.
- Building. You'll be trained on Claude Code and our stack in your first weeks, and you'll it daily — reproducing bugs, writing fixes, building the small tools and integrations that unblock a specific merchant. You don't need to arrive knowing how to code. You do need to leave every month knowing more than you did.
- Support. Be the first line for merchants over WhatsApp, phone, and email. Monday–Saturday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Two hours on critical issues, 24 on everything else.
- Product. You'll be the only person who sees both the merchant's problem and the code that causes it. Your read on recurring pain points should shape what we build next, and you should be able to argue for it.
Who You Are
- A generalist at heart. You don't wait to be told what to do. You see what needs doing and you do it.
- Detail-oriented with a QA mindset. You break things on purpose to make them better. Sloppy software bothers you.
- Comfortable selling. You can walk into a restaurant, earn trust, and close a deal. No ego about it.
- Technically curious. You may not write code today, but you're the kind of person who picks up tools fast. APIs, dashboards, and config screens don't intimidate you.
- Client-facing and composed. You communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and actually like talking to people.
- Based in Nairobi. This role requires in-person work across the city.
- Young, hungry, and low-ego. You care more about learning and impact than titles.
Why Join TamuPOS
- Ground-floor opportunity. You'll help shape the product, the culture, and the go-to-market strategy from day one as our first hire in Kenya.
- Learn everything for an AI-native future. Sales, ops, QA, customer success, technical tools — you'll develop skills most people don't get exposure to until years into their career.
- Real ownership. Your work will have a direct, visible impact on the business every single week.
