On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced Customer Service Operations Officer – Transit Operations to work in Kenya.
Job Purpose
This position will be responsible for managing transit shipments through the Port of Mombasa, with a primary focus on cargo destined for Uganda, while also supporting movements into Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Key Responsibilities
Transit Operations Management
- Manage end-to-end customer service for transit shipments through the Port of Mombasa.
- Coordinate customs clearance, transport planning, and cargo movement into Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the DRC.
- Provide customers with timely shipment updates and proactive communication.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with transporters, customs authorities, shipping lines, border agencies, and internal teams to ensure smooth cargo movement.
- Monitor shipment milestones and resolve operational issues promptly to minimise delays.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with transit procedures, customs regulations, and company SOPs.
- Maintain accurate operational records and prepare customer reports where required.
Continuous Improvement
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency.
Other Duties
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Clearing & Forwarding, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experiencein freight forwarding/clearing and forwarding operations.
- Demonstrable experience managing transit cargo through Mombasa into Uganda is essential.
- Good understanding of transit procedures for Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the DRC.
- Knowledge of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya TradeNet, and regional transit documentation is an added advantage.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of customs clearance and transit documentation processes.
- Familiarity with regional transit corridors.
Core Competencies
- Customer-centric mindset.
- Strong operational planning and coordination skills.
- Excellent problem-solving ability.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Results-oriented with a strong sense of accountability.
