Key roles and responsibilities
- Provide Customs consulting support on a multitude of customs engagements.
- Provide expert advice to clients on any Customs matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, which include understanding their business needs and providing tailored Customs tax solutions.
- Lead business development activities aimed at growing the business portfolio and revenues from Customs related services.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients on Customs tax matters and address their queries and concerns promptly.
- Keep abreast of Customs trends and best practices in tax planning and compliance.
- Supervise and mentor junior tax professionals, providing guidance on technical matters and fostering professional development.
- Prepare and present clear and concise reports on taxrelated matters to clients and other stakeholders.
- Lead in thought leadership through writing articles and participating in activities aimed at brand enhancement.
- Perform engagement management activities including engagement set up, resource planning, billing analysis,invoicing and collection.
- Negotiate tax rulings.
- Help clients develop and implement effective Customs and trade management strategy.
- Simultaneously implement multiple projects which involves client interviews, computations, analysis, data gathering and coordination of KPMG and client resources.
- Draft opinion letters, responses to Revenue Authority inquiries, Revenue Authority ruling requests and other technical memoranda.
- Liaise with client’s finance/accounting/logistics departments and tax advisors to gather pertinent facts for analysis of tax risks.
- Research and consult on various Customs tax matters to build technical competence, develop business and industry expertise.
- Manage work in progress, billings and debtors for own client portfolio.
- Any other duties as may be assign.
Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience
- Business related Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
- Post Graduate Diploma/ Masters in Customs or any professional qualification in Customs from an accredited college/university are highly desirable.
- Any professional qualification in Taxation from and accredited college/university will be an added advantage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access along with experience performing internet research.
- A minimum of seven years of tax experience in an accounting firm, corporation, and/or law firm.
- Should be able to identify prospective business opportunities.
- Good knowledge and appreciation of tax legislation and regulatory environment.
- Working knowledge of accounting information systems and Tax tools.
