Polish Humanitarian Action is humanitarian non-profit organization basen in Warsaw/Poland. For almost a 28 years we have been delivering humanitarian aid to people suffering due to armed conflicts and natural disasters. Currently we are working in Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, Ukraine, Yemen, Lebanon and Iraq.

Key responsibilities:

  • Decides on the most appropriate siting of the sand dam in consultation with the other Programme staff and senior management, as per the stated needs of the community.
  • Prepares detailed technical specifications and designs for the construction of sand dams. Ensures these specifications and designs are adjusted for each dam to account for local variations between different sites.
  • Supervises the Artisans, casual artisans (fundis) and community members who are working at the specific dam site or work station.
  • Completes a clear and efficient plan of the dam to be built prior to the expected start date for the construction. This plan must be approved by the Head of Programmes and senior Management.
  • Decides and records the quantity of materials needed for the construction of the dam as planned.
  • Prepare and submit the requisition for materials for construction. This requisition must be approved by the Head of Programs.
  • In project where community contribution is envisaged, he/she determines by on-site inspection at least a month before the expected start date whether the local materials collected by the community are sufficient for planned dam construction.
  • Monitors whether the tools and materials get to the site, are stored properly, and used properly.
  • Monitors and orders for more supplies for construction as necessary.
  • Works with the artisans and the Head of Programs to coordinate the moving of materials and tools to other sites or back to the PAH store during and at the end of construction.
  • Monitors the sand dam immediately after construction for any problems, and reports them to the Head of Programs.

The successful candidate will be selected based on the qualification requirements described below:

  • At least 2 years’ experience with a reputable organization or government institution carrying out similar tasks or other construction works.
  • Experience in using engineering software for designs and illustrations.
  • A degree/diploma in water engineering , civil engineering or other relevant field
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
  • Must be a Kenyan citizen
