The role

We are adding a Data Analyst - Intern to our team to support a project for our partner, an East African financial technology organization. This project involves organizing and migrating large sets of transaction data that currently live in several disconnected systems. You will spend your time looking through records, finding patterns, and making sure the data that fuels their financial products is accurate and structured correctly for the long term.

About Pixel Systems

Pixel Systems is a small, fully remote software agency. We do not spend our time on flashy consumer apps or the latest marketing trends. Instead, we focus on the practical tools that keep businesses running, such as admin panels, CRM integrations, and database migrations. Our clients come to us when they need to replace a disorganized spreadsheet with a real database or when they need different software tools to communicate with each other.

We believe that working code is better than a perfect plan that never ships. Our approach is straightforward: we provide fixed quotes, we do weekly demos, and we hand over everything, including the code and documentation, when we are finished. We use reliable, well-tested technologies like Node, React, and Postgres because we want the software we build to be stable and easy to maintain.

The Role

In this internship, you will work on real-world data challenges. The East African financial technology project requires us to take messy financial logs and turn them into usable information for their operations team. You will be checking for inconsistencies, cleaning up data sets, and helping our developers map data fields into new databases. As a fully remote role, you will coordinate with the team through daily updates and shared documentation rather than in-person meetings.

A lot of the work involves verifying that data flows correctly from one point to another without losing any detail. You will also help build simple internal dashboards so the partner can see how their systems are performing. This role is about the steady, careful work of ensuring data integrity in a fast-moving financial sector.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is organized and enjoys the process of solving puzzles within data sets. You do not need years of career history, but you should be someone who notices when a record looks out of place. We value clarity and the ability to focus on the task at hand. This is a full-time, paid internship, and we offer a competitive rate that is attractive for an entry-level position.

  • A basic understanding of how databases are structured and how tables relate to one another.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, including the ability to use filters, basic formulas, and data cleaning techniques.
  • The ability to work independently while staying connected with a remote team.
  • A patient approach to repetitive tasks that require high levels of accuracy.
  • Good written communication skills for explaining findings to the rest of the team.

Helpful Background

While this is an entry-level position, there are a few technical basics that will help you get started quickly. If you have some familiarity with the following, it will be useful in your day-to-day tasks:

  • Writing simple SQL queries to pull or update information in a database.
  • Awareness of how APIs move data between different software applications.
  • Exposure to Postgres or other relational database management systems.
  • Experience using basic data visualization tools to show trends or errors.
  • A general interest in how financial technology systems handle transactions.

Working at Pixel Systems

Working here is different from a typical corporate environment. We are a small team without layers of management. If you have a question, you talk directly to the developer or designer who is working on the project. Because we are 100 percent remote, we trust you to manage your own schedule and get your tasks done without someone looking over your shoulder. We focus on shipping work that solves immediate headaches for real people, such as warehouse managers or finance officers who are tired of dealing with broken tools. You will see the impact of your work almost immediately as it begins to help our partners run their businesses more effectively.

We pride ourselves on being a no-drama workplace. We focus on the work, we help each other out when things get complicated, and we make sure the client is always informed. It is a plain-spoken environment where being reliable and honest about your progress is the most important thing. We are looking for an intern who is ready to learn the ropes of data management while helping us deliver a high-quality system for our partner in the financial technology space.
