- The Database Administrator will be responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and support of all Kenya Airways Limited database platforms. This includes Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and otheremerging database technologies. The role requires ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and security of databases to support the operationaland strategic objectives of the airline.
Detailed Description
- Administer, monitor, and optimize performance across all database environments to ensure efficient operations.
- Design and implement Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and High Availability (HA) solutions to ensure system resilience and zero downtime during maintenance or unexpected outages.
- Conduct capacity planning and anticipate future database storage needs in line with business growth.
- Respond promptly to user-reported issues and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Develop, test, and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity.
- Implement strong database security controls to protect against unauthorized access, breaches, and data leaks.
- Prepare regular reports on database usage, performance metrics, and incident resolution.
- Collaborate with IT project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of database requirements with business applications.
- Provide input on database design to support front-end and back-end development teams.
- Apply industry best practices in database administration, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
- Work closely with technology vendors and partners for solution support, upgrades, and issue resolution.
- Keep abreast of new trends and technologies in database systems and recommend improvements or adoption.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in infrastructure support or database administration, preferably within a complex enterprise environment.
- In-depth experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, including Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
- Hands-on expertise in Linux/Unix administration as it relates to database hosting and management.
- Proven ability in database performance tuning, troubleshooting, migration, and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM).
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
- Oracle Certified Expert (OCE)
- Microsoft SQL Server Certification
- Exadata Administration
- Linux/Unix Certification
- Hadoop Administration (an added advantage)
- Working knowledge of cloud-based database models and integration architectures.
