Job Purpose:

  • To lead and supervise the field debt collection team in recovering overdue loans, reducing the SACCO’s Portfolio at Risk (PAR), and ensuring timely collections in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The role demands strong leadership, efficient coordination of recovery efforts, and proactive member engagement in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily field operations of the debt collection team across Nairobi and nearby regions.
  • Assign delinquent loan accounts to team members for effective follow-up and recovery.
  • Conduct joint field visits with collection officers to resolve high-risk or complex cases.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and drive team performance to achieve set collection targets and KPIs.
  • Develop and implement strategies for recovering non-performing loans while maintaining member relationships.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to the field collection team.
  • Handle escalated recovery cases and negotiate repayment plans with defaulting members.
  • Ensure full compliance with SACCO policies, CBK regulations, and ethical debt collection standards.
  • Coordinate with legal and other departments on cases requiring litigation or formal enforcement.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate records and prepare weekly and monthly reports on recovery activities.
  • Identify risk trends and provide recommendations for improving credit and recovery processes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Credit Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in debt collection, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Proven track record in field-based loan recovery, ideally in a SACCO, MFI, or financial institution.
  • Knowledge of loan products, credit risk, and debt recovery procedures.
  • Familiarity with CBK guidelines and Kenyan legal framework on debt collection.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and reporting tools.
