Job Requirements
i. Masters of Science in any of the following disciplines: Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Livestock Economics, Forensic Science, Animal Nutrition and Feed Sciences, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Clinical Studies, Veterinary Public Health, Livestock Production Systems, Poultry Science, Veterinary Anatomy, Reproductive Biology, Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology, Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Diagnosis, Fish Science, Apiary Science, Master of Public Health, Applied Veterinary Parasitology, Applied Microbiology, Comparative Mammalian Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Wildlife Health and Management, Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, Animal Production or Aquatic Sciences from a recognized institution.
ii. Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine or its equivalent from a recognized academic institution.
iii. Registration and retention by Kenya Veterinary Board(KVB)
iv. Have a Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
v. Have shown outstanding administrative capability and professional competence required in managing Veterinary Services.
vi. Should have served in the grade of Assistant Director of Veterinary Services or its equivalent for a minimum period of three (3) years.

Job Description
i. This position is responsible for deputizing the Director of Veterinary Services in coordinating and overseeing the provision of veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development matters in the county.
ii. Coordinating implementation of veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development matters as deputy to County Director.
iii. Participating in developing food and feed safety strategies that ensure reduced incidences of human sickness
iv. Supervises and appraises staff that falls under the jobholder
v. Deputizing the County Director in;
vi. Receiving and auctioning data/reports from sub-county veterinary officers
vii. Coordinating all of veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development matters activities in the county
viii. Procuring and distributing veterinary medicines allocated for veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development in the county
ix. Ensuring timely response to public health incidents of veterinary concern and enforcing appropriate control measures.
x. Coordinating programs on the control of veterinary public health and for hides, skins and leather development.
xi. b) Compiling annual, quarterly and monthly reports on of veterinary public health and hides, skins and leather development activities.
xii. Planning surveillance and monitoring activities and other measures for control of public health hazards of veterinary concern.
xiii. Deputizing the County Director in managing and controlling all finances allocated for veterinary services in the county.
