Background
Our client is a dynamic Christian non-profit institution committed to community development and education. The Deputy headteacher plays a key leadership role in supporting the Principal to ensure effective academic delivery, smooth school operations, strong student welfare systems, and a nurturing, Christ-centered learning environment. The role combines administrative leadership, instructional supervision, pastoral care, and team management to promote academic excellence and holistic learner development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative & Operational Leadership
- Deputise the Principal and assume full leadership responsibility in their absence.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school to ensure smooth and efficient functioning.
- Prepare and manage staff duty rosters, staff attendance records, and movement registers.
- Maintain accurate learner and staff records, including admissions, attendance, discipline cases, and staff files.
- Ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of learners, staff, and institutional resources.
- Manage and oversee school facilities, equipment, and infrastructure to maintain a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal within scope and capability.
Academic & Curriculum Oversight
- Supervise and ensure full implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in line with national education standards.
- Monitor syllabus coverage and maintain high academic standards across all subjects.
- Coordinate internal examinations and oversee analysis and use of results for school improvement.
- Implement scheduled instructional programmes and academic calendars.
- Source, manage, and distribute instructional and learning materials.
- Review teaching and learning support materials to ensure quality and effectiveness.
- Appraise senior teachers and other teaching staff in collaboration with the Principal.
- Teach assigned subjects according to specialization and timetable.
- Initiate innovative ideas and programmes to enhance teaching and learning.
Student Discipline, Welfare & Pastoral Care
- Maintain discipline among learners and staff to create a positive and conducive learning environment.
- Chair or support the Disciplinary Committee and handle learner behaviour cases with fairness and professionalism.
- Promote holistic learner welfare, including psychosocial support and safeguarding.
- Track learner attendance and coordinate follow-up for absent learners.
- Provide guidance, counselling, and spiritual mentorship in line with Christian values.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Support, supervise, and mentor teachers and non-teaching staff.
- Coordinate staff development programmes and professional training activities.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, excellence, and servant leadership.
- Support performance management processes, including staff appraisal and feedback.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Organise and lead parents’ meetings and school engagement forums.
- Strengthen relationships between the school and the wider community.
- Represent the school in relevant education and community platforms when required.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- P1 Certificate or Diploma in ECDE (Early Childhood Development Education).
- Valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Registration Certificate.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education ( PRIMARY OPTION/ECDE) is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of teaching experience.
- At least 3 years’ experience as a Senior Teacher, or
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Deputy Principal or in a similar leadership role.
- Ability to teach Lower Primary is an added advantage.
