The Director, Resource Mobilization position will help to drive ChildFund International’s Resource Mobilization growth strategy. The Director will lead a cross-functional team responsible for increasing grant success at ChildFund. The Director will play a key role in developing and driving the global Resource Mobilization strategy alongside matrixed colleagues across the organization in order to strategically allocate resources towards the most winnable opportunities. This position will lead prepositioning and capture for large-sized and highly strategic opportunities as well as train and support Country and Regional Offices in the development and execution of capture plans. This position will also be responsible for representing ChildFund in various forums and for generating and cultivating leads from foundations, corporations, bilateral, multilateral, innovative financing, and other institutional donors; making highly participatory go/no-go decisions; and overseeing efficient and effective technical and cost proposal preparation in accordance with ChildFund’s policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for identifying, cultivating, and engaging with potential partners in development of competitive applications, forging strategic partnerships in alignment with growth aims, and overseeing pre-award proposal improvement activities on the divisional annual operating plan.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in international relations, business administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience needed
At least 10 years of experience pursuing and winning new multi-million (over $10M highly preferred) US dollar grants with bilaterals (including US DOS, MCC, DFC), multilaterals, foundations, corporations, as well as innovative financing and pooled funding mechanisms.
At least 3 years of team management experience, effectively allocating human capital resources to meet strategic resource mobilization priorities and increase wins.
Track record of analyzing resource mobilization metrics and trends and using data to improve resource mobilization systems and processes to drive up win rates.
Experience developing and effectively delivering resource mobilization trainings with diverse, multi-level skill audiences.
Experience in technical proposal writing.
Experience mobilizing resources for several child-centered sectors (e.g. education, livelihoods, sustainability, protection) strongly preferred.
Responsibilities or duties
- Lead matrixed, diverse team of resource mobilizers and proposal writers; coaching, mentoring, and managing their performance to drive up win rates. Effectively assign these key human resources to high priority and high value opportunities that maximize return on investment.
- Lead matrixed, diverse Resource Mobilization teams to drive efficient and effective proposal development processes for high-value and highly strategic opportunities with foundations, corporations, institutions, and innovative financing mechanisms to include developing winning proposal strategies (cost, technical, and co-investment); undertaking in-depth competitive analysis that informs win themes and design; identifying, negotiating, and engaging consortium partners; facilitating swift draft reviews with top-notch expertise; and facilitating learning across teams, proposals, and donors.
- Collaborate closely with Strategic Communications to maximize probability of winning new funding; lead pitch development processes including the creating of donor and opportunity-specific collateral.
- Identify and foster new partnerships for Resource Mobilization with bilaterals, multilaterals, foundations, corporations, social impact entities, innovative financing actors; drive partnership development and identify new ways to engage prospective partners and funders including regularly cultivating leads for new funding opportunities
- Represent ChildFund across a range of donors and forums; proactively identify opportunities to position ChildFund for innovative or expanded partnerships, effectively representing ChildFund externally with a wide range of audiences.
- Effectively articulate ChildFund’s value proposition to diverse external audiences to design innovative mechanisms for scaling impact
- Drive in-depth competitive analysis and build internal capacity for in-depth competitive analysis to inform value propositions
- Lead and/or support the development and execution of multi-pronged prepositioning plans for a wide range of target donors, working collaboratively across teams to advance efforts to secure funding with new donors and increase funding with existing donors.
- Advise team and matrixed staff (lead as necessary) to undertake business intelligence research, analyze funding trends, conduct desk research on emerging opportunities, and create opportunity-specific capability statements.
- Lead and/or support the development and adoption of improved resource mobilization systems and processes (including IT-enabled); proactively identifying when enhancements/improvements need to be made and taking steps to address them with minimal direction.
- Support efforts to improve cross resource channel coordination and strategy in addition to advising country teams in the development and execution of localized resource mobilization plans.
- Lead and/or support the development of and drive the delivery of resource mobilization training globally.
- Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding Policy.
- Travel internationally to ChildFund regions to collaborate with national and regional staff in support of ChildFund’s grant growth strategy.
- Other duties as assigned.
