Reports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO), with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Chief Finance & Administration Officer (CFAO).

About the Opportunity

Big Life Kenya is seeking an experienced, technically grounded and hands-on Director of Logistics to lead the management of our physical assets, fleet, workshop, stores, infrastructure and logistics operations.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a practical, results-driven professional who can combine strategic planning with hands-on execution, build effective teams and systems, and deliver measurable improvements in operational efficiency and cost management.

The role is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of physical assets, ensuring they are appropriately planned, acquired, deployed, maintained, utilized and replaced to deliver maximum operational value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Asset Lifecycle Management: Lead asset planning, acquisition coordination, utilization, preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, replacement and disposal, ensuring accurate asset records and long-term investment planning.
  • Fleet, Workshop & Equipment: Oversee workshop operations, vehicle and equipment maintenance, fleet utilization, fuel efficiency, downtime, operating costs and evidence-based repair-versus-replacement decisions.
  • Infrastructure & CAPEX: Coordinate infrastructure development, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance projects, ensuring quality, cost control, timely delivery and proper project handover.
  • Stores & Inventory: Strengthen inventory management, stock controls, verification, security and accountability for organizational materials, equipment and spare parts.
  • Logistics & Procurement Coordination: Lead logistics requirements planning and technical specifications, working closely with the centralized Procurement function on supplier evaluation, quality assurance, timely delivery and value for money, while maintaining established procurement controls.
  • Leadership & Performance: Lead and develop technical and logistics teams, manage budgets, strengthen operational systems and controls, and deliver measurable efficiency improvements and cost savings.

Qualifications and Experience Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Procurement, Business Administration or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, including 3-5 years in management or senior supervision.
  • Demonstrated practical technical experience in at least two of the following: fleet/workshop operations, automotive or mechanical systems, machinery and equipment, infrastructure/construction, facilities management, asset management or technical project delivery.
  • Proven experience managing diverse operational teams, physical assets, maintenance programs and CAPEX projects.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, cost control, supplier management and value-for-money assessment.
  • Ability to develop operational systems, manage performance and deliver results in demanding field environments.

Added Advantages

  • Technical or professional qualifications in engineering, mechanical/automotive systems, project management or supply chain management.
  • Experience in conservation, NGO, humanitarian or other field-based organizations.
  • Experience operating in remote locations and managing geographically dispersed teams.

The Person We Are Looking For

We are looking for a practical leader who gets things done-someone equally comfortable developing operational plans, inspecting vehicles and infrastructure, engaging technical teams, challenging contractors and solving problems directly in the field.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical judgment, integrity, initiative, commercial awareness and the ability to inspire teams, build sustainable systems and consistently deliver results.

This is not a desk-based coordination role. It requires a leader who can plan strategically, lead effectively and execute practically.
