About Nariana Enterprises Ltd.

Nariana Enterprises Ltd. is a growing Kenyan civil engineering and construction company involved in infrastructure, road works, and related engineering projects across the country. As we continue to expand our civil engineering operations, we are looking to recruit experienced and reliable site personnel who can support the company’s growth, strengthen site execution, and maintain high standards of workmanship, productivity, and discipline.

Role Summary

Nariana Enterprises Ltd. is seeking an experienced Earthworks Foreman to supervise and coordinate earthworks activities on road construction projects. The successful candidate must have strong practical experience in road construction, with specific hands-on knowledge of earthworks, including clearing, excavation, embankment formation, fill placement, compaction, grading, drainage preparation, and formation works. This role requires a disciplined and proactive individual who can manage site teams, coordinate plant and equipment, follow instructions from engineers and site management, and ensure that earthworks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Earthworks Foreman shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

Site Supervision & Earthworks Execution

  • Supervise daily earthworks activities on road construction sites.
  • Coordinate clearing, grubbing, excavation, cut-to-fill operations, embankment construction, backfilling, spreading, grading, levelling, and compaction works.
  • Ensure works are carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, levels, alignments, and instructions from the Site Agent, Project Manager, or Engineer.
  • Monitor the quality of earthworks, including layer thickness, moisture condition, compaction standards, and general workmanship.
  • Ensure that unsuitable material is properly identified, separated, removed, or reported to site management.
  • Assist in setting out, level control, and coordination with surveyors to ensure works are executed to the correct lines and levels.
  • Supervise preparation of subgrade, road formation, shoulders, side drains, culverts approaches, and related earthworks areas.
  • Ensure proper sequencing of works to avoid delays, rework, or unnecessary movement of plant and materials.

Labour, Plant & Equipment Coordination

  • Coordinate the use of excavators, graders, rollers, water bowsers, tippers, bulldozers, loaders, and other site equipment.
  • Monitor plant productivity and ensure machines are used efficiently.
  • Report equipment breakdowns, idle time, fuel issues, operator concerns, and maintenance needs to site management.
  • Ensure operators and labour teams understand daily targets, work areas, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Maintain discipline, productivity, and good teamwork among site personnel.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure that earthworks are carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
  • Monitor site safety during excavation, haulage, tipping, compaction, and movement of heavy equipment.
  • Ensure workers use appropriate PPE and follow site safety instructions.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, poor workmanship, defective materials, or potential site risks.
  • Assist in implementing corrective actions where works do not meet required standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment on site.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Provide daily progress updates to the Site Agent, Project Manager, or designated site supervisor.
  • Keep basic records of daily work completed, labour attendance, equipment used, material movement, delays, and site challenges.
  • Assist in preparing daily site reports where required.
  • Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, plant operators, storekeepers, subcontractors, and site teams.
  • Report any shortage of materials, labour, equipment, fuel, water, or other resources affecting earthworks progress.
  • Escalate technical issues, level discrepancies, design concerns, or site obstructions promptly.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a Foreman or in a similar site supervisory role.
  • Proven experience supervising earthworks on road construction projects.

  • Ability to read and understand basic drawings, levels, site instructions, and work plans.
  • Good understanding of site safety requirements and construction quality standards.

  • Reliable, disciplined, and hands-on approach to site work.
  • Ability to identify problems early and report them clearly.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, safety, and accountability.
