Responsibilities

  • Leads the adoption by ETPU of modified working methods and procedures in the framework of ongoing modernization processes, including the Global Terminology, Reference and Translation Solutions (gText) project.
  • Ensures that modified workflows are designed and implemented in ETPU according to rigorous and transparent standards that reflect the language-specific operational needs of ELU and are supported by systematic training.
  • Ensures the effective transition of ETPU to new workflows while maintaining the delivery of ELU work products by sharing information and supporting full participation in workflow reviews.
  • Organizes, plans, controls and coordinates the work of ETPU with respect to the production of camera-ready documents for reproduction and storage of final text in the United Nations Official Documents System (ODS).
  • Distributes assignments among ETPU staff to ensure efficient and effective processing of documentation, efficient use of resources, and an equitable distribution of work. Sets priorities in consultation with the Chief of ELU and gives special instructions as needed.
  • Reviews all incoming formatting work before assigning it; registers and processes all assignments in the gDoc system on a daily basis. • Monitors ETPU statistics; ensures that work folders are properly maintained; performs other administrative work as needed.
  • Trains and guides junior ETPU staff members.
  • Completes performance evaluations for junior ETPU staff members as First or Additional Reporting Officer.
  • Upon request, assists in training staff to align bi-texts in order to support the production of high-quality translation memories for computer-assisted translation, machine translation and related workflow improvements.
  • Assists in training staff to perform other modified text-processing functions developed under gText or related workflow reviews, such as in the area of preprocessing or pre-translation of texts.
  • Participates in the creation, updating and maintenance of departmental macros, templates and models.
  • Rotates on daytime, after-hours and weekend work shifts, as needed.
  • Stays available for overtime and on-call assignments, depending on the needs of service.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assists with updating information material such as web pages and brochures.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Education

Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplementary formal training in desktop publishing or a related field is desirable.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in desktop publishing or a related field, including draft typing, copy editing, formatting, proofreading and creating typographical layouts, is required. The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced by two (2) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree.
  • Experience with editorial rules and desktop publishing, including typographic standards, is desirable.
  • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or a related area is desirable.
