About The Role:

Sun King is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Clean Cooking Quality Assurance (QA) team and take ownership of the testing, validation, and performance monitoring of electronic and electromechanical systems used in clean cooking products, including devices that enable pay-as-you-go access to LPG.

The role will work closely with the R&D, Firmware, QA, and Manufacturing teams to ensure devices are thoroughly validated before release and continue to perform reliably across production environments and real-world deployments.

What you would be expected to do:

  • Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of the electronics and electromechanical hardware used in clean cooking products, such as control devices, sensors, and communication modules.
  • Conduct firmware feature upgrade testing and pre-release validations for clean cooking products.
  • Investigate and diagnose hardware and firmware faults, documenting findings clearly for internal teams.
  • Perform QA testing of software used on manufacturing test stations.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and inspection checklists for hardware and firmware releases.
  • Support field inspection activities, including occasional on-site hardware checks and performance data collection.

You might be a strong candidate if you have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 1–3 years of experience working with embedded systems, electronic hardware, or firmware testing.
  • Experience reading printed circuit board (PCB) schematics and layouts.
  • Hands-on experience testing both physical hardware and embedded firmware or software.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and microcontrollers (e.g., ESP32, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
  • Familiarity with communication protocols, including but not limited to UART, I²C, and SPI.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, test automation, or data evaluation.
  • Comfortable using standard lab equipment, including multimeters, bench power supplies, and oscilloscopes.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively across teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with IoT products or connected device ecosystems.
  • Experience with soldering, hardware rework, or PCB-level diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with QA management tools or defect tracking systems (e.g., Jira, TestRail).
  • Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of the electronics and electromechanical hardware used in clean cooking products, such as control devices, sensors, and communication modules.
