Background
Tatu is a project of Rendeavour, Africa’s largest urban land developer with over 30,000 acres of visionary projects in the growth trajectories of large cities in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo. Rendeavour’s vision goes beyond alleviating what is a self-evident problem - that of stifling urban congestion and a dearth of quality housing and commercial property in Africa. Rather, we aim to help create the infrastructure - the living and working spaces, communities, schools and hospitals - that will help sustain and accelerate Africa’s economic growth, meet the aspirations of Africa’s burgeoning middle classes, and serve as a catalyst for further urban development.
Position Overview
The HSE Officer will be responsible for initiating, developing, implementing, and coordinating environmental health and safety management plans, programs, policies, and strategies to ensure a safe working environment across Tatu City. The role enforces total HSE compliance on site, conducts audits and inspections, and prepares reports with corrective actions where required.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Planning: Develop and implement safety management plans, policies, and strategies in line with legislation and industry best practices.
Audits & Inspections: Perform daily and scheduled audits of work sites to ensure compliance with safety and health requirements.
Reporting: Prepare inspection reports, maintain injury logs, and submit findings to management and relevant government agencies.
Stakeholder Guidance: Advise and instruct employees, contractors, and visitors on safety topics including noise, machinery use, and waste disposal.
Training: Organize OHS training sessions, inductions for contractors, and emergency drills.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all works comply with Kenyan building codes, local authority regulations, and Group policies on anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, and quality standards.
Hazard Investigation: Investigate complaints, accidents, disease outbreaks, and hazardous spills; identify physical, biological, and chemical risks.
Contractor Oversight: Review and approve subcontractor safety plans, verify adequacy of tools and equipment, and monitor site operations for compliance.
Requirements
Skills and Experience:
A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience as a safety officer, with a minimum of 3 years spent in a supervisory role.
Profound knowledge of industry standards and regulations (OSHA)
Experience writing reports and policies for health and safety.
