Job Purpose

The Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the hospital’s physical infrastructure, environmental services, and support operations to ensure a safe, clean, functional, and efficient healthcare environment. The role provides leadership and supervision to the laundry, kitchen, grounds, housekeeping, and waste management teams while ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and high service standards across all non-clinical support functions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day management, maintenance, and operation of hospital facilities and support services.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to Laundry, Kitchen, Grounds, Housekeeping, and Waste Management personnel.
  • Ensure hospital buildings, utilities, equipment, and surrounding grounds are maintained in a safe and functional condition.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for facility infrastructure and equipment.
  • Monitor the quality and efficiency of laundry services to ensure timely availability of clean linen and uniforms.
  • Oversee kitchen operations to ensure safe food preparation, hygiene standards, and quality meal service for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Manage grounds and landscaping activities to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming hospital environment.
  • Coordinate waste segregation, collection, storage, and disposal in accordance with healthcare waste management guidelines and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities and support service areas and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Prepare departmental work plans, budgets, reports, and resource requirements.
  • Manage service contracts, suppliers, and external contractors related to facilities and support services.
  • Promote efficient use of resources and implement initiatives that improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with departmental managers to ensure support services meet hospital operational needs.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Environmental Health, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in Facilities Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline will be an added advantage (Preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in facilities, operations, hospitality, or support services management.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in a healthcare facility or similarly complex institution is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance, waste management, housekeeping, laundry, or food service operations.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computerized reporting systems.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of facilities management principles and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Understanding of healthcare waste management and environmental sustainability practices.
  • Budget management and resource planning skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple departments and priorities effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality service delivery.
