Our client is a seeking to recruit an experienced Field Clerk to facilitate the efficient clearing of containerized edible oil shipments by handling documentation, coordinating with port authorities, and ensuring timely cargo release and delivery.
Job Description
Follow up on vessel arrivals and monitor discharge of containers carrying edible oils
Track container movement from port to yard and Container Freight Stations (CFS)
Coordinate container verification, and release processes
Ensure correct HS code classification for edible oils
Verify and submit all import documentation including Bill of Lading, Invoice, Packing List, IDF, and Certificate of Origin
Liaise with KRA, KEBS, and Kenya Ports Authority to facilitate cargo clearance
Coordinate cargo inspections, sampling, and approvals with relevant authorities
Follow up on any queries or delays to ensure timely clearance
Arrange and coordinate container dispatch and trucking
Ensure issuance of delivery orders, gate passes, and release documents
Track delivery of cargo to warehouses and confirm receipt
Maintain accurate records of all clearing and forwarding documents
Provide regular updates on shipment status to supervisors or clients
Identify and escalate discrepancies, delays, or compliance issues
Ensure compliance with customs regulations, port procedures, and company policies
Minimize demurrage and detention costs through efficient follow-up
Job Requirements
Diploma or Certificate in Clearing & Forwarding, Customs Administration, or a related field
Must have proven experience in clearing and forwarding of containerized cargo at the Port of Mombasa
Minimum 3-5 years’ hands-on experience in customs clearance and port operations
Demonstrated knowledge of HS Codes for edible oils and tariff classification
Proven ability to liaise with KRA, KEBS, and Kenya Ports Authority for cargo clearance
Experience coordinating container release, inspections, and delivery logistics
KESRA certification or customs training will be an added advantage
