Role Description

The Field Technician role is a contract, on-site position based in Nairobi County, Kenya. The Field Technician will install, configure, and maintain fiber internet connections at customer locations, including homes, businesses, and institutions. Day-to-day tasks include performing site surveys, routing and terminating fiber cables, testing connectivity, troubleshooting network and hardware issues, and resolving service interruptions. The role also involves documenting work performed, updating service tickets, maintaining tools and equipment, and following safety and company standards. Field Technicians will interact directly with customers, provide clear explanations of services and equipment, and support the technical team in meeting service quality and response time targets.

Qualifications

Technical expertise in fiber installation and maintenance, including fiber splicing, cable routing, and use of testing tools (e.g., OTDR, light meters).

Knowledge of basic networking concepts such as IP addressing, routers, switches, Wi-Fi configuration, and customer premise equipment setup.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for resolving connectivity issues, hardware faults, and service disruptions in the field.

Clear communication and customer service skills to explain technical information, manage expectations, and maintain professional interactions on-site.

Ability to work independently in the field, manage time effectively, and follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.

Comfort with physical field work, including working at heights, handling cabling, and operating in varied outdoor and indoor environments.

Relevant technical certification or diploma in telecommunications, networking, electrical engineering, or a related field is highly beneficial.

Previous experience as a field technician, network technician, or similar role in an ISP or telecommunications environment is an advantage.

Valid driver’s license and reliable access to transportation for travel within Nairobi County and nearby areas, as required.
