The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Finance and Compliance Director to lead our financial operations and ensure robust compliance frameworks across our programs in Kenya. This role is critical in safeguarding our assets, optimizing financial performance, and upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, financial planning, accounting, and reporting.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with donor regulations, local laws, and Mercy Corps’ internal policies.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, donors, and financial institutions.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to senior management and program teams.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data and reporting.
- Lead and mentor the finance and compliance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for financial and compliance risks.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably within the non-profit sector.
- Proven experience in managing complex budgets and financial reporting for international development programs.
- In-depth knowledge of donor regulations (e.g., USAID, DFID, EU) and compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, risk management, and audit processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working in Kenya or East Africa is an advantage.
