Finance Manager, Financial Services-Nairobi

Our client is a leading financial services firm that provides a cross-border payments platform designed to provide fast, secure and reliable transfer of funds globally. They are authorised by FCA in UK and FINTRAC in Canada.

They have retained our services to support the hiring process for a high calibre Finance Manager. This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and with key commercial business responsibility.

Job Purpose/Your Role

Reporting to the CEO you will be responsible for leading and managing all financial and accounting operations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. The role provides strategic financial leadership, oversees financial reporting, budgeting, and taxation, and ensures alignment with international accounting standards. The Finance Manager plays a critical role in supporting business growth through effective financial planning, cash flow management, process optimization, and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.This is a strategic, high-impact leadership role ideal for a results-driven finance professional who thrives in challenging fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop finance strategies; lead budgeting and forecasting; support strategic and business planning
  • Oversee monthly close processes, including journal entries, accruals, provisions, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and ensure proper classification of transactions.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls across all accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, financial procedures, and external regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and review timely monthly, quarterly, and annual management and statutory financial reports.
  • Lead preparation of consolidated group financial statements and ensure elimination of intercompany transactions.
  • Manage cash flow projections and maintain financial sustainability.
  • Coordinate and oversee external audits and ensure timely completion of audit deliverables.
  • Ensure financial compliance with relevant tax, AML/CFT, and accounting regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns and statutory filings in all operational jurisdictions.
  • Manage regulatory submissions including Central Bank filings, AML/CFT reports, and transaction flow reports.
  • Lead the company’s annual budgeting process in collaboration with departmental heads.
  • Monitor performance against budget and prepare variance analyses with corrective recommendations.
  • Manage company cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity for operational needs.
  • Monitor bank reconciliations and working capital across all entities.
  • Develop and execute efficient FX management and intercompany fund transfer strategies.
  • Review and approve monthly payroll processing for accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee payroll-related transactions including benefits, taxes, and statutory deductions.
  • Manage and optimize the use of ERP and accounting systems.

Required Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Mandatory full professional qualifications CPA/ ACCA, CFA certification is an advantage.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience and responsibility in accounting/ finance, including 3 years in a managerial or regional role in Fintech, payments or financial services
  • Proven experience with IFRS, GAAP, tax compliance, and group consolidations.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and MS Excel.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Deep understanding of financial and regulatory frameworks across African and global markets.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and metrics to measure the effectiveness of financial initiatives and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve goals and objectives.
