Description
Our client, a leading automotive spares wholesaler and retailer with a multi-branch network across Kenya, is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Finance Manager. This pivotal role involves overseeing all financial operations of a fast-paced business. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of financial management within the automotive or related sectors, a proven track record in budgeting, cost control, and compliance, and the ability to drive strategic growth through sound financial planning and data-driven insights.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Strategy & Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals.
- Develop financial models to evaluate business performance, assess new investment opportunities, and guide expansion decisions.
- Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance reviews, identifying areas for cost optimization and revenue enhancement.
2. Accounting, Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements in full compliance with IFRS and Kenyan tax laws (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, Excise Duty).
- Manage all accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Ensure robust internal controls and proper documentation for all financial transactions.
- Prepare comprehensive management accounts and board reporting packs.
- Lead all external and internal audits, ensuring prompt response and implementation of recommendations.
3. Automotive-Specific Financial Management
- Prepare accurate import costings and manage the system process for stock receiving.
- Create and manage customer credit accounts, ensuring proper approvals and diligent follow-ups.
- Work closely with sales, operations, and procurement teams to align financial strategies with operational goals and business drivers.
4. Leadership, Risk & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead, mentor, and build the capacity of the finance team to improve overall performance.
- Monitor and manage financial risks, including currency fluctuations, credit risk, and fraud prevention.
- Engage with key external stakeholders such as banks, tax authorities (KRA), suppliers, and insurers.
- Support the Managing Director with strategic decision-making by providing data-driven financial insights.
Qualifications, Experience, and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a distinct advantage.
- Must hold a professional accounting certification (CPA-K, ACCA, or equivalent).
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within the automotive, retail, or a related fast-moving goods industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of bank reconciliations, import processes, and Letters of Credit (LCs).
- In-depth understanding of Kenyan tax laws, IFRS, and all statutory compliance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems and MS Excel.
- Proven commercial acumen and a clear understanding of automotive business drivers.
