JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the organization's accounting operations, preparing accurate financial reports, maintaining the general ledger, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. The role oversees budgeting, financial analysis, statutory reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls while providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The Senior Accountant also coordinates audits, monitors project and donor funds where applicable, and ensures the efficient utilization of financial resources to support reliable and sustainable water service delivery.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax laws and water sector regulations.
- Coordinate annual external audits and facilitate internal audit processes.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial performance reports.
- Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies to optimize financial resources.
- Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts.8
- Maintain effective internal controls and ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures..
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
- Oversee financial reporting for capital projects, grants, and donor-funded programs where applicable.
- Support procurement, inventory, and asset management through financial oversight.
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff and support their professional development.
- Perform any other related duties as delegated by Finance Manager.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any other related field.
- Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent.
- Membership to the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and be of good standing.
- At least five (5) years of progressive accounting experience with three (3) years in supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), taxation, and financial management practices.i
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems, Quick Books and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
