This professional is responsible for managing the bank's relationships with other financial institutions. They act as the primary point of contact and strategic link between their own bank and its institutional clients.

Key Responsibilities

The core duties of a Financial Institutions Relationship Manager usually include:

  1. Client Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key contacts at other financial institutions (clients).
    • Serve as the main liaison for all business and service-related issues.
  2. Business Development:
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with existing and potential financial institution clients.
    • Cross-sell the bank's products and services to these clients.
  3. Product & Service Sales:
    • The specific products and services they sell are typically "wholesale" and include:
      • Correspondent Banking: Providing services like cash management, foreign exchange, and trade finance to other banks, especially those without a presence in the region.
      • Custody Services: Safekeeping of financial assets for other institutions.
      • Treasury Products: Foreign exchange, money market instruments, and derivatives.
      • Trade Finance: Letters of credit, bank guarantees.
      • Securities Lending & Brokerage Services.
      • Cash Management Solutions.
  4. Risk Management:
    • Assess the creditworthiness and risk profile of their financial institution clients.
    • Monitor exposure and ensure it remains within approved limits.
  5. Strategic Planning:
    • Develop account plans and strategies to grow revenue and market share from each client relationship.
