Background

Topmax College is seeking to fill two positions for a Food & Beverage Lecturer within the Hospitality & Tourism Department. This role reports to the Head of Department (HOD). The Food & Beverage Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality theoretical and practical instruction to students pursuing diplomas and certificates in Hospitality Management. The role requires a blend of industry experience and academic prowess to prepare students for the dynamic F&B industry.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures on F&B service, restaurant operations, menu planning, cost control, mixology, and beverage management.
  • Supervise and assess students in practical kitchen and service lab environments (e.g., mock restaurants, bars).
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating course materials to align with industry standards and examination body requirements (e.g., KNEC, City & Guilds).
  • Set, invigilate, and mark examinations, assignments, and practical projects. Provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Maintain relationships with hotels and restaurants to facilitate student attachments and guest lectures.
  • Guide students on career paths, industry ethics, and professional demeanor.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Food & Beverage Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a tertiary institution or 5 years of supervisory experience in the F&B industry.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., WSET, City & Guilds, AHLEI) are highly desirable.
  • Must be registered with a relevant professional body (e.g., TVETA).

  • Strong practical skills in table service and bar operations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage a classroom and practical lab effectively.
