Verst Carbon Limited is recruiting short-term consultants and field personnel for a nature-based project in Kenya. These are part-time, assignment-based engagements, with roles expected to commence at various points between September and December 2026

1. Forest Biomass / Inventory Specialist

Role Overview: The specialist is responsible for the technical execution of ground-based forest carbon inventories, ensuring high-quality data collection for Above-Ground Biomass (AGB) and Below-Ground Biomass (BGB) estimation.

Key Responsibilities:

Survey Design & Implementation: Design and establish permanent sample plots (PSPs) and temporary sampling units following internationally recognized standards (e.g., IPCC, GOFC-GOLD).

Biometric Measurements: Oversee the measurement of Diameter at Breast Height (DBH), tree height, species identification, and assessment of wood density and forest health.

Allometric Calculations: Apply species-specific or pantropical allometric equations to calculate biomass stock and carbon density per hectare.

Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous QA/QC protocols during field data collection to minimize measurement errors and ensure data integrity.

Data Analysis: Analyze inventory data to calculate growth rates, mortality, and recruitment, providing inputs for carbon stock change calculations.

Reporting: Prepare technical reports on forest structure, biomass estimates, and uncertainties for project verification and validation bodies (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard).
