The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) continues to play a central role in the management and development of Kenya’s tea industry, supporting smallholder farmers through efficient production systems, value chain optimization, and sustainable agricultural practices. Position Overview
The Forester role is a technical and operational position within KTDA’s sustainability and resource management function. Reporting to the Wood Fuel and Development Manager, the position is responsible for overseeing wood fuel projects, ensuring sustainable forestry practices, and supporting the development and management of forest resources across KTDA factories.
The role contributes significantly to KTDA’s environmental sustainability objectives by ensuring that forestry initiatives are economically viable, environmentally compliant, and aligned with long-term resource planning strategies.
Responsibilities or duties
The Forester will undertake a wide range of responsibilities focused on forestry management, project oversight, and technical support, including:
- Supervising the implementation and management of wood fuel projects across KTDA factories, ensuring adherence to approved plans and sustainability guidelines.
- Developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for forest resources and factory tree farms to track performance, growth patterns, and resource utilization.
- Coordinating feasibility studies and economic analyses for proposed forestry and wood fuel projects to assess viability and inform investment decisions.
- Participating in the review and enhancement of land acquisition and procurement procedures for forestry projects to ensure compliance with legal and environmental standards.
- Monitoring financial controls and economic indicators associated with wood fuel initiatives to ensure cost efficiency and optimal resource allocation.
- Preparing detailed, timely, and accurate reports on project performance, highlighting key findings, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
- Conducting research on improved tree species and clones with enhanced growth characteristics and higher calorific value to support efficient energy use.
- Identifying and engaging strategic partners in forestry and wood fuel management to strengthen project implementation and sustainability outcomes.
- Ensuring strict compliance with environmental health and safety standards across all forestry operations and project sites.
- Providing technical advisory support to KTDA factories and contracted firewood farmers on best practices in forestry management and sustainable resource utilization.
This role demands strong analytical capability, environmental awareness, and the ability to integrate technical forestry knowledge with project management and stakeholder engagement.
