Job Summary:

The Full Time Faculty, Medical Specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility will provide expert clinical care, consultation, and leadership in the management of patients with reproductive and fertility-related disorders. The role involves working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care, contribute to research, and support the hospital’s academic mission by training medical students, residents, and fellows. The specialist will also play a key role in advancing AKUH’s reproductive health services and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and manage patients with reproductive endocrine disorders, infertility, and related conditions, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, male factor infertility, and recurrent pregnancy loss.
  • Perform and oversee assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), and ovulation induction.
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures, including ultrasound assessments, hysterosalpingography, and laparoscopy/hysteroscopy for fertility evaluation and treatment.
  • Provide counseling to patients and families on fertility treatment options, risks, and outcomes, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, gynecologists, urologists, embryologists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive care.
  • Participate in the training and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows in reproductive endocrinology and fertility.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of educational programs, including lectures, workshops, and case discussions.
  • Supervise clinical rotations and provide hands-on guidance in ART procedures and patient management.
  • Engage in clinical and translational research to advance knowledge in reproductive endocrinology and fertility.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with the hospital’s research department to design and implement studies aimed at improving fertility outcomes and treatment protocols.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility Unit at AKUH, including the expansion of ART services.
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols, guidelines, and quality assurance measures to ensure best practices in patient care.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital-wide committees to promote quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Participate in community outreach programs to raise awareness about reproductive health and infertility.
  • Advocate for patient access to fertility care and support initiatives to address barriers to treatment.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Postgraduate specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology (MMed or equivalent).
  • Fellowship or subspecialty training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from a recognized institution.
  • Valid registration and licensure with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience in reproductive endocrinology and fertility, including hands-on experience with ART procedures.
  • Proven expertise in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to infertility, such as laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and ultrasound.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to academic excellence, research, and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team environment.
