Role Overview

The Garden Assistant III position is a training grade within the gardening and grounds maintenance cadre. Officers appointed at this level will be deployed to support the maintenance of lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas within Ministry facilities. The role involves practical outdoor work and contributes to the upkeep and presentation of government compounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of Garden Assistant III will include:

  • Maintaining lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas to acceptable standards
  • Caring for flowerbeds, shrubs, hedges, and ornamental plants
  • Watering, weeding, pruning, and trimming plants as required
  • Assisting with planting of grass, flowers, trees, and other vegetation
  • Clearing pathways and removing debris from garden and compound areas
  • Using gardening tools and equipment safely and appropriately
  • Assisting supervisors and senior staff with gardening and landscaping tasks
  • Maintaining cleanliness and order in garden storage areas
  • Undertaking varied gardening duties within Ministry units, State House, and lodges
  • Performing any other gardening-related duties as assigned

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to the grade of Garden Assistant III, an applicant must meet the following requirement:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ (Plus) or its equivalent qualification

No additional qualifications are required beyond those stated above.

Deployment and Work Context

Garden Assistants III may be deployed to Ministry of Defence units, State House facilities, or lodges, depending on operational requirements. The role requires adherence to institutional procedures, discipline, and work schedules within a structured public service environment.
