KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • This position is open to candidates based in countries where World Vision International is legally registered to operate.

Support to RGA of National Office Development & Capacity Building

  • Provide capacity building, development training and facilitation in best practice governance to selected national offices, as determined by the SD, in consultation with the RGA.
  • Facilitate the assessment of governance effectiveness in NOs and recommendation of action plans to address identified performance gaps.
  • Support the SD and RGA in the implementation of regional governance strategy, including those national offices undergoing Transition.
  • Make recommendations towards, and support the implementation, of the any regional planning for capacity building and other learning processes.
  • Support the defining of baseline Critical Success Factors (CSF) to promote effectiveness and alignment of national offices to Partnership standards. 
  • Ensure monitoring, observation, regular communication and quality meeting reporting via Chair report, agenda and minutes provided by the national offices
  • Provide support to the process of national office Transitions, as appropriate. This includes the following:
    • Explanation of policy, standards and expectations
    • Identification of available materials and other resources
    • Analysis of development needs to close gaps
    • Delivery of general and targeted training as required
    • Utilise the Transit Flow IT system to progress the transition through the different levels of review and approval
  • Disseminate knowledge, tools and experience to National Directors, Board Support Staff/Coordinators and senior leadership regarding how to effectively support their national office and derive value from their work.
  • Apply relevant knowledge and experience in the development and review of content and formatting of board training modules and ensure that identified gaps in materials and resources are addressed.

Board Support Staff Development and Capacity Building

  • Provide capacity building, development training, and facilitation in best practice governance to selected Board Support Staff, as determined by the Senior Director, in consultation with the Regional Governance Advisor.

Peer Review & Global Assurance & Advisory (GAA)

  • In conjunction with the Peer Review function, provide support to SD and counsel to selected national directors and staff regarding the self-review, in preparation for Peer Reviews. 
  • Provide advice for an appropriate follow-up and implementation of Peer Review recommendations.
  • Support GAA’s risk audits related to the governance functioning.
    • Be available for a per-internal audit meeting to give insight and perspective
    • Incorporate material recommendations into the annual governance training/ development programme
    • Confirm implementation of internal audit recommendation if/when required to do so

Collective Responsibility, Regional Strategy & Alignment

  • Support the RGA in the development of a contextualized Regional Forum that is governance-focused and a development opportunity for national office representatives
  • Liaise with Vision Fund governance department to ensure alignment between national offices and VisionFund MFIs on governance issues as per Partnership policies.
  • Participate at Regional Forum and Triennial Councils as determined by senior leadership.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education, training, license, registration, and/or

Certification

  • Bachelor’s level degree in related field such as Human Development, Law, Organisational Development, Corporate Business and related Management, or Governance

Required Professional Experience

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the functioning of International NGOs such as World Vision in terms of their governance, management and operations.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of current board governance issues in the region and/or the world.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in organisational roles and dealing with internal customers - including working directly under and reporting to a board, preferably within the non-profit sector
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Proven ability to work with high level members of board and advisory councils across physical and cultural distances. Understanding of peer review mechanisms. Ability to coordinate, facilitate and deliver board training
  • Ability to conceive and formalize sound strategy to meet the mission and deliver on objectives and tasks on time.
  • Outstanding coordination skills, with ability to handle multiple activities concurrently, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. International experience/exposure through travel or living working in other countries
  • Ability to participate effectively in a virtual team while ensuring achievement of team objectives
  • Good diplomatic, influencing and negotiating skill with ability to exercise discretion.
  • Proven ability to work across different cultures and nationalities within the region.

Required Language(s)

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English

Required travel and/or work environment accommodations

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.  
  • Willingness to work outside the normal working hours as required, due to the need to connect with people in different time zones
  • Ability to work in a virtual team

Preferred Experience,  Knowledge and/or other Qualifications

  • Masters Level or Higher Degree in related field such as Human Development, Law, Organizational Development, Corporate Business Management or Governance
  • Certification in Governance (e.g. Chartered Secretary)
  • Experience in the development of quality board tools and resources
  • Board experience and development facilitation
  • Ability to work in a complex organization
  • Understanding of current practices in corporate governance and NGO sector governance
