Job Summary
Provide entry-level electrical engineering support for safe and reliable operation of power and electrical systems at the field facility and camp. Support fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, test activities, documentation and technical coordination under supervision while developing practical field competency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent.
- 0–2 years’ practical experience; industrial placements, internships or final-year project work in power/process environments advantageous.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Fundamental knowledge of MV/LV distribution, transformers, switchgear, generators, motors and basic protection concepts.
- Familiarity with electrical testing methods (insulation resistance, earth tests, battery checks) and basic thermography interpretation.
- Ability to read electrical drawings, single-line diagrams and schematics.
- Awareness of hazardous area concepts (basic ATEX/Ex understanding) and electrical safety practices.
- Familiarity or willingness to learn CMMS (SAP/EAM) and basic MS Office; basic Excel skills for data logging.
Behavioural & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong safety mindset, methodical approach and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills for clear reporting, handovers and coordination with field teams.
- Eager learner, proactive, reliable and able to take direction and work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Able to remain calm under pressure and apply practical judgement during supervised fault events.
Experience & Conditions
- Willingness to live in camp conditions on rotational roster and undertake regular field rotations; ability to work extended hours during faults, shutdowns or emergencies.
- Physically able to access plant areas and perform inspections in varied environmental conditions.
Performance Indicators
- Accuracy and timeliness of electrical inspection and test records.
- Completion rate of assigned preventive maintenance tasks and timeliness of defect reporting.
- Responsiveness and quality of support during fault diagnosis and shutdowns (under supervision).
- Progress against individual training and competency development plans.
- Compliance with electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work and documentation standards.
Desirable
- Basic certifications: First Aid, H2S, Working at Heights, Permit-to-Work awareness.
- Training in thermography, insulation testing or relay/basic protection tests.
- Experience with PLC/SCADA electrical interfaces, generator control systems or previous field placements.
- Assist with day-to-day electrical support: wiring, testing, inspections and basic fault-finding on MV/LV systems, switchgear, generators, MCCs and motors (under supervision).
- Support execution of planned preventive maintenance and electrical test programmes (insulation, earth, motor, battery, thermography) and record results.
- Prepare and review electrical workpacks, permit-to-work documentation, method statements and risk assessments for supervised tasks.
- Assist in commissioning, shutdowns, isolations and reinstatements; support safe LOTO practices and energisation checks.
- Maintain and update electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics and asset registers; ensure document control.
- Support condition monitoring activities and simple diagnostics (thermal imaging, basic vibration checks, oil checks) and raise defect reports.
- Coordinate with operations, technicians and contractors to plan and deliver electrical jobs; monitor contractor compliance and QA under guidance.
- Maintain spares inventory records for critical electrical components and liaise with procurement for replenishment.
- Contribute to incident reporting, investigations and implementation tracking of corrective actions.
