Job Summary
Provide entry-level mechanical engineering support for safe, reliable operation and maintenance of rotating and static equipment on field assets. Support inspections, preventive maintenance, breakdown response, documentation and small works under supervision while developing practical field competency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with routine mechanical inspections, equipment rounds and condition monitoring (vibration, thermography, oil analysis) and record findings.
- Support execution of planned preventive maintenance and turnaround activities; raise and close work orders in CMMS under supervision.
- Help diagnose mechanical faults on pumps, compressors, valves, heat exchangers and piping systems; support hands-on troubleshooting with technicians and contractors.
- Prepare and review mechanical workpacks, permit-to-work documentation, method statements and risk assessments for supervised tasks.
- Support commissioning, isolated shutdowns and reinstatement activities; ensure safe LOTO practices and mechanical reinstatement checks.
- Assist with root-cause analysis and failure investigations; document findings and track corrective actions.
- Maintain and update mechanical drawings, equipment registers, spare parts lists and maintenance records; ensure document control.
- Liaise with procurement to expedite critical spares and manage inventory levels for high-criticality components.
- Support small mechanical modification projects and upgrades (scope definition, vendor liaison, inspection support).
- Participate in HSE meetings, toolbox talks and contribute to safe work practices and competency development of technicians.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 0–2 years’ practical experience; internships, industrial placements or final-year project work in rotating equipment, plant operations or maintenance advantageous.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Basic understanding of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, motors), static equipment (vessels, heat exchangers), valves and pipework.
- Familiarity with condition monitoring techniques (vibration, thermography, oil analysis) and mechanical inspection practices.
- Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, assembly drawings and basic mechanical datasheets.
- Awareness of mechanical integrity, bolting, alignment, bearings, lubrication and seal systems.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn CMMS, basic engineering calculations and MS Office/Excel.
Behavioural & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong safety mindset, methodical approach and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills for clear reporting, handovers and coordination with field teams.
- Eager learner, proactive, dependable and able to take direction and work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Able to remain calm under pressure and apply practical judgement during supervised fault events.
Experience & Conditions
- Willingness to live in camp conditions on rotational roster and undertake regular field rotations; ability to work extended hours during faults, shutdowns or emergencies.
- Physically able to access plant areas and perform inspections in varied environmental conditions.
Performance Indicators
- Timeliness and accuracy of inspection records and work order updates.
- Completion rate of assigned preventive maintenance tasks and defect reporting.
- Responsiveness and quality of support during mechanical fault diagnosis and reinstatements (under supervision).
- Progress against individual training and competency development plans.
- Compliance with mechanical safety procedures, permit-to-work and documentation standards.
Desirable
- Basic certifications: First Aid, H2S, Working at Heights, Permit-to-Work awareness.
- Training in vibration analysis, thermography, alignment or rotating equipment maintenance.
- Exposure to fabrication/welding standards, valve maintenance and pump/compressor overhaul experience.
