Role Overview
The main purpose of this role is to conduct and personally instruct various health and fitness programs, including group exercise classes and personal training sessions for members.
The Gym Instructor assists the Wellness team by monitoring the facility and fitness equipment to ensure safety standards are maintained, and members are provided a safe, inviting, and results-driven environment.
This role is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, conducting fitness assessments, designing exercise programmes, and promoting wellness initiatives in alignment with the company’s global health and sustainability goals.
Key Objectives Of The Role
This position has the authority to:
- Modify exercise programmes within established safety guidelines based on individual member needs
- Enforce facility rules and safety protocols to prevent injury and maintain order
- Recommend equipment maintenance or replacement to the supervisor
- Adapt class formats and schedules within approved parameters.
- Refer members with medical concerns to appropriate healthcare professionals
Decisions should be made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines.
Knowledge Required
Detailed Working Knowledge required
- Fitness testing methodologies and health risk assessment
- Exercise principles and program design (cardiovascular, strength, flexibility)
- Safe use and maintenance of cardio, strength, and free-weight equipment
- Group exercise class formats and choreography
- Injury prevention and emergency response protocols
- Wellness industry trends and best practices
- Client motivation and behaviour change strategies
Essential Education / Experience Knowledge & Skills
- Certificate or diploma or above in Physiology, Physical education, Heath sciences, Wellness or any other related field of study
- 8+ years of experience in a commercial or corporate fitness setting teaching or coaching
- 3+ years of experience in personal training
- Minimum of 4 years experience as a Group Exercise Instructor
- Additional certification in specialised fitness areas in added advantage
Interface/Maintan Relationships With
- Internal: Factory Director, Facilities Management team, various on-site departments / functions, on-site clients (various departments)
- External: Members, Service providers, wellness team, healthcare partners
