Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Supervisor to oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) operations at our vegetable oil extraction plant in Wote, Makueni County. The successful candidate will support the implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s HSE management systems, ensure compliance with statutory regulations, promote a strong safety culture, and minimize operational and environmental risks across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Kenyan occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Lead incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety awareness campaigns, and training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, including incidents, accidents, near misses, working hours, permits, licenses, statutory inspections, and certifications.
- Monitor environmental performance, including waste management, emissions, water usage, and compliance with environmental standards.
- Support the implementation of emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems and safe operating procedures across all plant activities.
- Advise management on occupational health, hazardous substances, PPE requirements, machinery safety, fire prevention, and environmental compliance.
- Prepare and submit monthly HSE performance reports, statistics, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee participation in HSE initiatives and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the HSE Superintendent or Plant Management.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in an HSE role within a manufacturing, industrial processing, or vegetable oil extraction environment.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan Occupational Safety and Health regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience implementing and maintaining HSE management systems in an industrial setting.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other relevant management systems will be an added advantage.
- Certification in Occupational Health & Safety (DOSHS-approved or equivalent).
- Training in Risk Assessment, Incident Investigation, Root Cause Analysis, Fire Safety, and Emergency Response is highly desirable.
- Certified Risk Assessor qualification will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and HSE reporting systems.
