Background

This is a Head of Operations Manager position within Brites Management Jobs, focusing on Logistics and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Lead and coordinate the daily operations of three operational units.
  • Ensure the timely and efficient delivery of municipal, commercial, and industrial waste collection services.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Monitor operational performance against established KPIs and service level agreements.
  • Ensure continuity of operations and effective response to operational challenges and emergencies.

Team Leadership and People Management

  • Supervise, motivate, and develop operational supervisors, drivers, loaders, and support staff.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and customer service excellence.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate staff development initiatives.
  • Manage workforce planning, attendance, and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies.

Fleet and Asset Management

  • Optimize the utilization of vehicles, machinery, equipment, and operational assets.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and operational costs.
  • Ensure operational equipment remains safe, functional, and compliant with regulatory standards.

Health, Safety, Environment and Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and waste management regulations.
  • Promote and enforce safe working practices across all operational sites.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company policies, and industry standards.

Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction

  • Monitor service delivery standards and address operational issues promptly.
  • Ensure customer complaints and service requests are investigated and resolved effectively.
  • Work closely with clients, municipal authorities, and other stakeholders to maintain high service standards.
  • Implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Budget and Cost Control

  • Assist in preparing and managing operational budgets.
  • Monitor operational expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of labor, fleet, fuel, and equipment resources.
  • Prepare operational reports and performance analyses for management.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational performance reports.
  • Analyze operational data and recommend process improvements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve productivity, service quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support business growth initiatives and operational expansion projects.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Operations Management, Waste Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ supervisory or management experience in operations, logistics, waste management, transportation, or a related industry.
  • Experience managing multiple teams and field-based operations.
  • Strong knowledge of operational planning and resource allocation.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • Experience in waste management, environmental services, sanitation, or municipal service operations.
  • Health and Safety certification.
  • Experience managing large vehicle fleets and operational assets.
