Role Context

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Department - Programs to lead our programmatic initiatives. This role is crucial in driving the strategic direction and operational execution of our health programs, ensuring they align with our mission and achieve measurable impact. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in program management, a deep understanding of public health challenges in Kenya, and a passion for innovation.

Responsibilities

The Head of Department - Programs will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans for all Jacaranda Health programs.
  • Overseeing the design, execution, and monitoring of program activities.
  • Managing program budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and financial accountability.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of program managers and staff.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community partners.
  • Ensuring program quality, impact, and sustainability.
  • Contributing to fundraising efforts and proposal development.
  • Staying abreast of best practices and innovations in maternal and child health.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in program management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the health or development sector.
  • Proven track record of successfully designing, implementing, and managing complex health programs.
  • Strong understanding of the Kenyan health landscape and relevant policies.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management and financial oversight.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and data analysis tools.
