As we continue to grow, we're looking for a strategic and commercially driven Head of Purchasing to lead our procurement function and ensure our business has the right products, suppliers, and partnerships to support operational excellence.
The Opportunity:
This is more than a purchasing role. You'll shape procurement strategy, negotiate high-value supplier partnerships, optimize costs, strengthen supply continuity, and build a high-performing procurement function that supports one of Kenya's leading food manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement procurement and sourcing strategies.
- Negotiate supplier contracts, pricing, and commercial agreements.
- Manage suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and value.
- Secure uninterrupted supply of ingredients, packaging, equipment, and operational materials.
- Drive procurement savings while maintaining quality standards.
- Lead supplier performance reviews and identify new sourcing opportunities.
- Manage tender processes and supplier evaluations.
- Reduce emergency purchases, stock shortages, and obsolete inventory.
- Work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, and Finance teams.
- Monitor procurement KPIs and prepare monthly performance reports.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Purchasing Officer.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, governance, and approval controls.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional procurement qualification (CIPS) is an added advantage.
- At least 7 years experience in procurement or supply chain management, including leadership experience.
- Experience within Food Manufacturing, FMCG, Hospitality, or Retail.
- Strong commercial negotiation and contract management skills.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and cost management capabilities.
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- High integrity, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
