In this Head of Road Freight – Kenya position

Customers

  • Identify and develop potential, sustainable customer relationships
  • Respond to customer enquiries / complaints
  • Lead in engagements and strategic customer interfaces with Key Account Contacts
  • Provide leadership in the areas of product and business development, resource utilisation, Country organization and strategic Industrial Project customer interfaces
  • Support and co-ordinate the development, implementation and localisation of key initiatives and programmes
  • Ensure effective pricing strategies are developed to sustain profitable growth.
  • Co-ordinate with different departments to deliver quality service to Industrial Project customers
  • Responsible for achieving Industrial Project Customer business targets
  • Develop sales motivation initiatives to keep high sales performance towards the annual business target.
  • Responsible for costs and cost structure and drives improvement measurements and actions
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of the Industrial Project customer database and its use for identification and segmented targeting of Industrial Project customers and prospects for DGF.
  • Share product knowledge and to provide internal support to subordinates
  • Facilitate and support country's efforts in maintaining healthy relationships with trade bodies and government agencies & authorities, including being an active subscriber or participant of global research agencies
  • Establish KPl's and obtain agreement & commitment from Country management
  • Provide guidelines and support for the implementation of programs such as security regulation to meet country mandated regulatory requirements
  • Carrier contact/negotiation (RFR) according to corporate policy and local requirements.

Stakeholders

  • Oversees the transport portal (Saloodo)
  • Carrier contract/relationship and performance management
  • Interact with commercial team (at country level) in terms of pricing
  • Defines, implements, monitors and enforces service and quality standards, in cooperation with product management (in Regional Office)
  • Responsible for EBIT result at country/country group level

Process

  • Defines, monitors and enforces targets to the operational units
  • Select and assigns key positions to reach targets
  • Analyses costs and cost structure of production on country/country group level, and derives improvement measurements and actions
  • Responsible for constant improvement and optimization of production means (cost management), e.g. make or buy.
  • Defines and implements ISO standards in line with corporate instructions
  • Responsible for operational management, Production sites, Traffic management, Technical support (buying, capacity etc.), Local purchasing on country/country group level for RFR according to corporate policy
  • Proposes IT needs
  • Responsible for Preferred Carrier adherence
  • Responsible for Operational KPl's

People Management

  • Determine organizations structure, roles and responsibility and performance targets for the function
  • Develop a culture of quality, service excellence (for internal customers), flexibility and cost consciousness
  • Develop a team spirit and multitasking capabilities within the team
  • Plan, organise and direct an efficient and effective function Develop KPl's with team members and monitor individual performance
  • Conduct performance appraisal, including coaching.
  • Manage the allocation of appropriate resources and commitment of staff to the achievement of Global, Regional and Country objectives and targets
  • Identify training needs and opportunities to develop a highly skilled functional department

IP Product

  • Manages and steers the IP (product) teams in the country Manages all country IP P&LS.
  • Develop and maintain strong existing Industrial Project customer relations and loyalty
  • Drives BD for IP in alignment with the Sales organization, e.g., aligns IP customer target lists, drives sales/ BD collaboration and aligns incentives.
  • To join Industrial Project customer meetings/sales visits (potential and existing) and present company capabilities.
  • To collect market profiling and Industrial Project customer/ competitor research & analysis activities to understand and identify market opportunities and challenges.
  • Integrates IP into overall country/regional BD efforts and solution design and supports respective customer BD efforts Represents and bundles all non AFR/ OFR products in country management team and is partner/ go to person for other IP country organization (if partnering is required) Informs himself and seeks to replicate successful business ideas from other countries/ regions
  • Develops IP and innovation community, actively innovates and incubates new ideas e.g., niche business in a country Is contact for and manages local implementation of global and regional product launches
  • Is contact for IP related Business Cases

  • Degree in business Management or a related field
  • Minimum 10 yrs in Logistics Industry
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Product Management/ Value Added Services
  • Experience in management role
  • In-depth knowledge in the Logistics industry especially the Road freight product and forwarding business and understanding of Products/ Value Added Services
  • Proven success in a senior management role, with specific experience in selling to major global customers
  • Commercial ability, experience and thinking in customer centric x-product solution design Capability to innovate and implement new ideas
  • Strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent country and regional geographical knowledge for cross-border routings
