Job Purpose
The Heavy Structural Steel Project Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering structural steel projects from contract award through fabrication, delivery, erection, and final handover. The role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards while serving as the primary liaison between clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the execution of structural steel projects, including fabrication, logistics, site erection, and handover.
- Develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, and resource plans to ensure timely project delivery.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, fabrication, and site teams to achieve project objectives.
- Monitor project costs, manage variations, claims, and contractual documentation, and report commercial risks.
- Review structural drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate material procurement and delivery to support fabrication and installation schedules.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress, quality, safety, and compliance with company and statutory standards.
- Prepare regular project progress reports for management and maintain effective communication with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Project Management certification is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years' experience managing heavy structural steel projects within the structural steel fabrication or construction industry.
- Must have experience delivering projects such as factories, warehouses, industrial plants, commercial buildings, PVC Installations and other structural steel works.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, erection, and construction methodologies.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contractors, and multiple stakeholders.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to interpret structural and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes, welding, erection, and quality control.
- Good understanding of construction contracts, project planning, cost control, and risk management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project; experience with AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or similar software is an advantage.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
