Description

To maintain a clean, safe, hygienic, and supportive hospital environment that promotes client recovery, staff well-being, and compliance with health and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in patient wards, offices, common areas, and isolation rooms in line with hospital policies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control procedures, especially within a mental health care setting.
  • Handle cleaning chemicals, equipment, and materials safely and responsibly.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and deep-cleaning schedules as assigned.
  • Properly collect, segregate, and dispose of waste in accordance with hospital and environmental guidelines.
  • Change bed linens, curtains, and other furnishings as per schedule or when required.
  • Promptly report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or damaged equipment to the supervisor.
  • Observe patient dignity, confidentiality, and safety at all times.
  • Support emergency cleaning needs and assist during inspections and audits.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing, clinical, and maintenance teams to ensure a supportive healing environment.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCES:

  • Knowledge of infection control, hygiene standards, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and follow instructions accurately.
  • Good communication skills and a compassionate, respectful attitude toward patients.
  • Physically fit

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • K.C.S.E certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Certificate or training in housekeeping, hospitality
  • Prior experience in a hospital, mental health facility, or healthcare setting is highly desirable.
