As we continue to strengthen our institutional capacity and scale impact, we seek an accomplished Human Resources officer to provide strategic HR leadership and build robust people-centered systems.
The Role
The Human Resources Officer will be a key member of the management team and reports to the Chief Administration Officer. This position is responsible for developing and executing a progressive HR strategy that supports organizational effectiveness, compliance, and a high-performance culture. This role requires a seasoned HR professional with strong leadership capability, sound judgement, and a commitment to ethical and professional HR practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic HR leadership aligned with Baraka HealthNet’s mission, values, and long-term objectives
- Lead end-to-end talent management, including workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning
- Design, implement, and continuously improve HR policies, systems, and procedures in compliance with Kenyan labour laws and HR best practices
- Oversee performance management frameworks, staff development, training needs analysis, and capacity-building initiatives
- Champion employee engagement, wellbeing, and organizational culture, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Manage employee relations, disciplinary processes, and grievance handling with professionalism and fairness
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, HR audits, and donor or regulatory requirements
- Advise senior management on organizational design, change management, and people-related risk
- Oversee HR data management, reporting, and HRIS to support informed decision-making
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- A minimum of 7 years’ progressive HR experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or managerial HR role
- Professional HR certification (e.g. IHRM/CHRP, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or equivalent) is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in Kenyan labour laws, HR compliance, and ethical HR practice
- Proven experience developing HR strategies in a complex, multi-disciplinary organization (healthcare or NGO sector is an advantage)
- Strong leadership, coaching, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
