Job Description

The ICU Nurse at Nanyuki Hospital is responsible for providing specialized, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill patients. The ideal candidate is highly skilled, detail-oriented, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced critical care environment.

What You Will Do

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive nursing care for critically ill patients.
  • Continuously monitor patients vital signs, cardiac rhythms, ventilator settings, and neurological status.
  • Administer medications, IV infusions, and critical care treatments as prescribed.
  • Operate and monitor ICU equipment including ventilators, infusion pumps, and monitors.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential ICU nursing documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to infection prevention, patient safety, and critical care protocols.
  • Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients families.
  • Collaborate closely with intensivists, doctors, and multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Participate in ICU audits, continuous professional development, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse KRCCN) or equivalent.
  • Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) registration and current practicing license.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a busy Intensive Care Unit.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is an added advantage.
  • Strong clinical skills with solid knowledge of critical care nursing and advanced patient monitoring.
  • High level of accuracy, compassion, ethical standards, and professionalism.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends
