Background
The Nairobi Safari Club has been a distinctive feature of Nairobi City's landscape for decades, gracing the skyline with its unique white spherical design.
Role Purpose:
To ensure the accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of the hotel's daily revenue, while conducting the night audit to verify all financial transactions across hotel departments. The role ensures that discrepancies are identified and resolved, revenue is properly accounted for, and accurate financial reports are available for management review.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Ensure system rates match contractual and rack rates; verify banquet charges against agreed terms.
- Validate supporting documents for complimentary and house-use rooms.
- Confirm accurate recording of all guest and non-guest transactions across departments.
- Reconcile restaurant cash, M-Pesa, and credit card payments with relevant reports and documentation.
- Ensure proper supporting documentation for city ledger checkouts and validate bill transfers between accounts.
- Reconcile housekeeping and Front Office room statuses and generate discrepancy reports.
- Oversee timely billing, correct cashier errors, and ensure all expected departures are properly checked out.
- Close all open POS checks, compile daily cashbook summaries, and ensure all documentation is complete.
- Run and distribute night audit reports; raise audit queries and support additional audit tasks as required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations; proficient in MS Office, i.e., Excel and Word, and hotel finance systems such as Micros, Opera, Materials Control, and SunSystems.
- Numbers-oriented with excellent organizational skills and a high attention to detail; capable of spreadsheet formulation and data analysis.
- Effective verbal and written communicator with the ability to interact professionally across departments and with guests.
- Maintains high standards of ethics and professionalism; able to manage difficult situations.
- Able to work varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnights.
- Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Proactive in identifying, flagging, and managing operational or financial issues.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or its equivalent.
- At least CPA Part III.
- 2 years of working experience as a Night/Income Auditor in a 4-5-star hotel, preferably with an international brand.
