About the Role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority within the UN system, responsible for setting the global environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development. The Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners to conserve, restore, and sustainably manage ecosystems.
This internship is based in the Director’s Office, Ecosystems Division in Nairobi. Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Management Assistant and Deputy Division Director, the intern will support information and knowledge management functions, focusing on digital filing systems, document management, and staff support.
Key Responsibilities
- Reorganize and optimize SharePoint/OneDrive filing structures
- Assist with document tagging, version management, naming conventions, and archiving in line with UNEP/UN standards
- Support migration of documents to structured digital repositories
- Provide troubleshooting and user support for Teams, SharePoint, Planner, and other M365 applications
- Prepare presentations, visuals, and documentation for internal meetings
- Assist with logistics and set‑up of meetings
- Maintain updated contact lists for the Director’s Office
- Participate in UN training and learning opportunities for interns
Candidate Profile
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher)
- Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree)
- Graduated with a degree in Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
Additional requirements:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter and interest in UNEP’s mission
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Power Platform for workflow management
- Fluency in English required; knowledge of another UN language is an advantage
Internship Conditions
Internships are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions
Non‑citizens or non‑residents of Kenya may be required to obtain appropriate visa and work authorization
