Background
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations agency mandated to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all and sustainable human settlements development.
Responsibilities
The Infrastructure and Basic Services Specialist will be responsible for:
- Providing technical expertise and guidance on infrastructure development and basic service delivery in urban areas.
- Developing and implementing strategies and projects related to water, sanitation, energy, waste management, and transportation.
- Conducting assessments, feasibility studies, and impact evaluations of infrastructure projects.
- Building partnerships with government agencies, local authorities, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
- Contributing to policy development and advocacy for sustainable urban infrastructure and services.
- Monitoring and reporting on the progress and outcomes of UN-Habitat's work in the area of infrastructure and basic services.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in urban planning, civil engineering, environmental science, public administration, or a related field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in infrastructure development, basic service delivery, or urban planning.
- Proven experience in project management, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in infrastructure development, basic service delivery, or urban planning.
