JOB DESCRIPTION

The Trade Marketing Intern provides structured office-based support to the Trade Marketing & Distribution team across Somalis and Rwanda. The role is designed for an entry-level employee who is building practical trade marketing capability while supporting the team with coordination, reporting, documentation, market follow-up and execution tracking. The intern works in a fast-paced and competitive commercial environment where priorities can change quickly, deadlines are tight and accurate information is required to support timely business decisions. Success in the role requires strong organisation, attention to detail, responsiveness, curiosity and the discipline to follow through on assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate trade marketing trackers, activity calendars, action logs and performance reports covering market execution, stock visibility, customer activity, competitive updates and agreed follow-ups.
  • Support the preparation of weekly and monthly updates by collecting inputs, checking data quality, consolidating market feedback and presenting information in a clear and usable format for the Trade team.
  • Assist with coordination of trade marketing activities, including agency brief follow-ups, approval tracking, market requests, purchase order support, document filing and confirmation of delivery against agreed timelines.
  • Prepare meeting notes, action trackers, presentation inputs, customer summaries and briefing packs to support discussions with internal stakeholders, market teams and external partners.
  • Follow up on assigned actions with internal teams, market contacts and agency partners, escalating delays, gaps or risks early so that the line manager has visibility of issues affecting delivery.
  • Monitor and organise basic market intelligence, including competitor activity, trade feedback, execution observations and emerging issues that may affect brand visibility, availability or customer engagement.
  • Support compliance with company processes by ensuring trade documents, approvals, claims, agency records and activity evidence are complete, properly stored and aligned with required standards.
  • Build practical knowledge of trade marketing, route-to-market execution, commercial systems, distributor ways of working and customer engagement through active learning, feedback and participation in team routines.
  • Contribute to a disciplined office operating rhythm by keeping files, trackers and follow-up routines organised, current and easy for the wider team to use.
  • Support ad hoc project as may be assigned by the line manager.

Scope and Working Environment

The role is office-based and requires close interaction with the Head of Trade, market teams, commercial colleagues, finance, supply chain, procurement and external agency partners. The intern will not have direct reports but is expected to manage personal workload effectively, keep commitments visible and maintain a strong follow-up rhythm. The environment requires speed, accuracy and sound judgement, particularly when handling market updates, urgent requests, competing deadlines and sensitive commercial information.

Expected Ways of Working

  • Plan daily work, prioritise urgent tasks and communicate early when support, clarification or escalation is required.
  • Use data carefully, check details before sharing updates and maintain confidentiality when handling commercial information.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through email, meetings, trackers and presentations.
  • Show ownership of assigned tasks by following through to closure and keeping stakeholders updated on progress.
  • Actively seek feedback, apply learning quickly and build confidence in trade marketing systems, processes and commercial routines.

  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail in data capture, document preparation, follow-up logs and stakeholder communication.
  • Provides timely support to the Trade team, especially where priorities change quickly or urgent market information is required.
  • Builds effective working relationships with internal teams, agency partners and market contacts through clear, professional and responsive communication.
  • Shows curiosity, creativity and commercial awareness by monitoring market updates, competitor activity and trade execution learnings.
  • Applies feedback quickly, improves quality of work with time and completes agreed learning activities each month.
  • Follows company processes, approval requirements and compliance expectations when supporting trade marketing activities.
  • Handles competing priorities with discipline, ownership and a positive bias for action.
