Job Purpose
The Inventory Accountant is responsible for managing and reconciling all inventory transactions across branches and the warehouse, ensuring accuracy in stock movement, valuation, and reporting. The role supports operational efficiency by maintaining up-to-date stock records, coordinating inter-branch transfers, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inventory Management & Accounting
-
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date stock records in the accounting and inventory management systems.
- Verify and reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly stock reports against physical counts.
- Monitor stock levels to identify variances, losses, or discrepancies, and investigate root causes.
- Ensure correct costing and valuation of inventory in accordance with accounting principles.
2. Warehouse and Inter-Branch Stock Transfers

- Prepare, record, and reconcile all warehouse and inter-branch stock transfer transactions.
- Coordinate with branch managers and warehouse teams to ensure timely and accurate transfer of goods.
- Track transfer documentation (GRNs, delivery notes, transfers) to ensure proper filing and audit readiness.
- Monitor pending transfers and resolve discrepancies between sending and receiving branches.
3. Stock Audits & Controls

- Participate in and support periodic physical stock counts across branches and the warehouse.
- Reconcile physical counts with system records and report variances for corrective action.
- Strengthen internal controls over inventory management and movement.
- Identify opportunities to reduce stock losses, damages, and obsolescence.
4. Reporting & Analysis
-
- Prepare monthly stock reconciliation reports for management review.
- Generate detailed reports on stock aging, movement trends, and branch performance.
- Provide data and insights to support decision-making on reorder levels, pricing, and warehouse planning.
5. Compliance & Coordination
-
- Ensure all stock-related financial transactions comply with company policies and relevant accounting standards.
- Liaise with the procurement, sales, and finance teams to ensure smooth flow of stock and data accuracy.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and reconciliations.
Qualifications & Experience
-
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPA II or higher qualification is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in stock accounting or inventory management, preferably in a retail or FMCG environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and reporting skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
